Meditation Series
Introduction to Meditation, Pranayama, Japa / Mantra and Satsang.
This is a Meditation Series consisting of six, 55 minute sessions. Every practice will involve a brief lecture (dharma discussion) or reading and a combination of guided pranayama exercises, japa mantra and meditation. Each class will build on the next, so its helpful to do them in order in the beginning. After going through the entire series, you can continue to repeat, or mix up the classes depending on level of proficiency.
Time: Approx 6 Hours Total

SESSION 1: Meditation/Pranayama/Japa Mantra/

Session 1: “Finding the Seat of Meditation”
Description: Introduction to pranayama, bhandas, japa, mantra and awareness meditation.
Time: 55 minutes

SESSION 2: Meditation/Pranayama/Japa Mantra
Meditation/Pranayama/Japa Mantra
Session 2:
Description: Introduction and chanting of the Anusara Invocation, review of pranayama and precautions, practice bellows breath, breath of fire, and new variation of alternate nostril breathing introduced, ending with a seated meditation.
Time: 60 minutes

SESSION 3: Meditation/Pranayama/Japa Mantra
Meditation/Pranayama/Japa/ Sutra’s 1-2
Session 3:
Description: Lesson on Patanjali and The Yoga Sutras Book 1 / Sutra 1-3. Learn the definition of yoga, followed by a 30 minute practice of Invocation, pranayama, japa, mantra and meditation.
Time: 60 minutes

SESSION 4: Meditation/Pranayama/Japa Mantra
Topic: Meditation / Pranayama/Japa Mantra/Sutras 3-16/
Session 4:
Description: Discussion and reading from The Yoga Sutras Book 1 / 3-16. Learn the reason for practicing meditation, and the different categories of thought waves. Last half of the class is chanting, pranayama, japa, mantra and meditation.
Time: 55 minutes

SESSION 5: Meditation/Pranayama/Japa Mantra
Meditation/Pranayama/Japa/ OM NAMAH SHIVAYA!
Session 5:
Description: Learn the meaning and the power of Om Namah Shivaya. Discuss the fear of meditating, and the simplicity of becoming the witness. Practice invocation, pranayama, japa, mantra and seated meditation.
Time: 60 minutes

SESSION 6: Meditation/Pranayama/Japa Mantra
Meditation/Pranayama/Japa/ So Hum and Prana
Session 6:
Description: Discuss the power of Prana, and the 5 different elements or Vayus of our breath. Learn the meaning and power of the mantra “So Hum.” Ending with a 30 minute practice including invocation, pranayama, japa, mantra and seated meditation.
Time: 60 minutes
